Note input dotted by default?

Hi all,

Starting from nothing selected on the left sidebar (screenshot 1), I can press any number 1–9. to select a rhythmic duration.

Surprisingly, it’s always dotted by default (screenshot 2). Is there any way I can change that?

Thanks!

If you press a number key twice in quick succession, it gives you the dotted version. This was added in Dorico 5. Some people would still like the option to turn it off. So make sure neither you or your keyboard are inadvertently double-tapping.

Thanks, Hugo! @hrnbouma (Oh, that’s a nice shortcut I’ll remember!)

As it turns out, Dorico remembers whether you were last inputting dotted notes or not, even after you deselect everything (e.g. screenshot 1), meaning that we users need to remember too

Funnily enough it only does that when Select mode is turned off as well (i.e. the cursor button in the toolbar) enabling note input with the mouse. As I do all my note input with a MIDI keyboard and have correspondingly turned off this checkbox in Preferences > Note Input:

Select is literally always on for me so I have never encountered this behaviour. I wonder if it is even documented at all.
