Hi, does anyone know if it is possible to input notes on the three organ staves from three different mid channels at the same time? I am using Hauptwerk9 via IAC (Mac). At the moment I have to use a direct midi configuration with 2 manuals and pedals for trying out ideas, then reloading the whole organ with the IAC config to enter notation.
I have searched previous threads but they are now quite old and I am using Pro 6
Dorico doesn’t currently have any way of mapping individual MIDI channels to specific staves. You can input on any channel, but Dorico won’t map those inputs onto staves: it will put all the notes onto the selected staff (or staves, if you’re inputting onto a grand staff instrument).
Ok thank you. I now have a half way solution, with the Great going to top staff and notation and swell and pedals bypassing Dorico and going direct to Hauptwerk, so at least I can try out ideas with full organ.
A trick that I learned with Dorico and Hauptwerk was to have a separate 2 voice organ staff for each manual (I use a 3M and P organ in HW) and then a single voice bass staff for the Pedal. Additionally, I have another single staff (any clef) as a control staff for HW to send piston and other settings to HW using CC90. I map Pedal (Dorico staff and HW staff) to Channel 1, Great to Channel 2, Swell to Channel 3 and Choir/Solo to Channel 4. The control staff is set as channel 6 as are the pistons and stops in HW.
Thanks for the idea. Good for a solo piece, I’ll definitely keep it in mind. This piece is for a concerto and I have more staves than you can shake a stick at what with doubling etc, so I shall compromise.
