Note Selection - same octave

Hi. I’m using Dorico 5.1 elements and I was wondering whether its possible to select the same (single) pitch across the whole piece. I often write drum scores and sometimes I get them from other people where the Kick drum (for example) has been written on the low E and I want to move ALL the kick drums to low F. I can do this using the piano roll editor by dragging the marquee over just that note. However, it’s a bit clunky and I often end up highlighting other notes. Is there a quicker and more accurate way of selecting these notes in the write menu. I’ve watched all the instructional videos and there’s loads of stuff on moving and selecting and copying but nothing about the selection of a single note of the same pitch across the whole piece. Hope this makes sense. Cheers Jon

Have you tried going to the Drum Kit Editor and switching the placement there?

Hi Derrek. No I haven’t. I’m not sure where the drum editor is. I’ll have a look on YouTube to see if there are any videos. Thanks Jon

I’m assuming this kick drum is on a pitched staff then? Either way the easiest method would be to select everything first, such as the entire staff (I recommend using galley view to make that easier). Then right click > filter > notes by pitch, and then add all E and move them down by keyboard.

For your specific case you could also probably select all notes on the kick drum staff and use the transpose menu (write > transpose) and then calculate all E’s to F.

Hi Wing. Thanks for the reply. The issue isn’t moving or transposing the notes. It’s selecting them in the first place without having to go through each bar and select the same note manually. These are on a drum staff and not a regular pitched staff.

In Sibelius (which I’ve moved away from) I could simply select a note and then either select all the same notes in the same octave or filter by pitch and octave.

I can’t understand why this function is either missing in Dorico or it’s hidden behind some other menu. Cheers Jon.

Yes, my first suggestion was based on your question about selection. You could literally shift click from the first bar to the last bar, and then select > filter by notes. It should take no more than 5 seconds and is very easy. It accomplishes exactly what you are asking.

However I would be confused about this being a non-pitched staff. What are you trying to achieve (move from all E to F) if they are non-pitched? I’m wondering if what you really need to do is adjust your percussion map?

Edit: corrected screen shot

Hi. Thanks for all your replies. I’m not sure editing the drum/percussion map will help. I think Wings first explanation about selecting notes and then filtering them would probably work. I’ll try that.
If I was inputting the notes myself then obviously editing the percussion map would be fine. However, often I get sent midi files from people who have placed their kick drum on low E instead of the F. Hope that makes sense. Thanks again. Jon

The Kit is not the same as the percussion map.
