NotePerformer 3 Not Working Working with Other VST's in Play Mode

Still on uphill learning curve with Dorico 4/5, so could well be ignorance. Sorry if this has been answered elsewhere. Looked, but didn’t see anything.

Can’t make Dorico the VST for any specific instrument in Play Mode. I know I can set up a Playback Template to include it. But I like to have Halion as the default, and then sample sounds from other VST’s to compare in Play Mode.

When I try Noteperformer with a specific instrument, message says to load it as the Playback Template. It then takes over control of all instruments.

I know about looking in the little VST windows in “VST and MIDI” in Play Mode.

Again, sorry if already answered.

Thanks Much!

John

Hi, in Play Mode in the left column you have two tabs, the Track Inspector and the VST and MIDI. The latter one shows you the VST plug-ins that are currently loaded, and the Track Inspector tab shows you, how your players in the score are routed to the VST plug-ins/instruments.
The playback templates do automatically both, the instantiation of the VSTs, as well as the routing to the VSTinstruments.
On the VST and MIDI tab you can add more VSTinstruments, and if you click on the e-button you can load sounds into the respective instrument slots of the plug-in instance. Once that is done you go to the Track Inspector tab and simply route your players of your score to the newly instantiated instruments. In the Routing section of the Track Inspector you see a combo box with the name of the old plug-in instance, you click on the down arrow and see in the drop down menu the name of your new VSTinstrument instance, you simply select that and then adjust the Port and MIDI Channel (Ch.) to the wanted value.

NotePerformer works a bit differently. It will not initiate correctly unless loaded via a Playback template… either the default NotePerformer one, or a custom one in which this is part…

Thanks Ulf & fratveno,

That’s what I thought re: NP-- must load via a Playback Template.

ULF- Very helpful. Still need to mess with it some more. Slow learner.

Thanks again,

John
