Noteperformer playback engine

I’m using Dorico 6 on my Mac, and recently the noteperformer playback engine has been crashing unexpectedly. The only thing I can think of is that the SSD containing my library is connected to a hub. This never happened even when my system data was growing abnormally. In fact, I’ve now managed to resolve the issue. Does anyone using the noteperformer playback engine with Dorico have any advice?

Are you using NPPE 4 or NNPE 5 ? I suppose NPPE4 as you mentioned your library. I never had this issue by the past when I was using NPPE4. But the Wallander wrote they will not maintain the software anymore and any updates in our VST libraries may cause irremediable crash. Did you update recently your libraries ? (PS : This is the reason that forced me to quit NotePerformer and spend a significant amount of time of finding an alternative using expression maps)

I had this problem and discovered that it was updated VSL Synchron Player that ws the issue. I rolled back to a (much) earlier, pre “Flow” version and things were right again. This is all with NP4 so that I can still use the playback engines.

I remember the introduction of NotePerformer as a breakthrough. And the playback engine is what allowed someone like me, who isn’t used to using key switches, to use Dorico as a DAW. It was a shame that I had trouble with NPPE 5. I don’t really know what NotePerformer does, but I adjust crescendos and the like by entering them in the Key Editor. The problem is switching articulations, or rather waveforms. NPPE does that, but without it, it’s a pain. Is it possible to do this using an expression map?

I’m using Cinema Studio Strings, which works with Kontakt, but I just upgraded from version 7 to 8. That might be the cause! Is it really possible to use version 7?

This is certainly the source of your issue : NPPE4 not compatible with the updated Cinema Studio String 7 library. So you have to use the previous version or quit NPPE and spend time to build a realistic template using Expression maps. It is a very complex process if you want something that sound realistic out of the box without midi CC programming.

I think you can revert to Kontakt 7. I would try that.

Thank you for your advice! I never thought there would be a pitfall like this. I’ve been careful when updating my OS! By the way, do you know the specific steps to revert Kontakt to version 7? I’d really appreciate any advice!

Kontakt7 should still be on your system, unless you removed it. If you did remove it, you should be able to restore it using Native Access.

this is not a problem with kontakt but with the library your are using. Updating kontakt do not lead to a NPPE4 crash, but a change of your .npi files of your VST library will if you update it. So you have to login to your Cinena Studio account, look for your products, and download the previous version that works for you by the past (I assume the version 6).

Thank you for your advice! I don’t recall updating the library, so do libraries need to be updated? I’ve never paid attention to the library version! How can I check the library version?

Ok my fault I miss read your initial post : You did not update your library. worth a try to reinstall it, how knows.
