Notes changing in measure

I have attached a jpg of my original measure that I’m transcribing in my projet, If you look at measure 2 and 4 of my original jpg you will see the measure 2 and for written as follows:

1 quarter note follow by a half note followed bye an eight rest and a last note an eight notes. that’s find with a 4/4 time signature.

Now if you look at my project jpg I wonder when I type the exact same note in measure 2 and 4 they change to as follows:

1 quarter note, followed by a quarter note tied to another quarter note then a eight rest and a eight note. Why that measure doesn’t keep the same notation as the original measure?

Is this due to some set up that I have to change or else. I have no idea why it keeps writing these notes another way.

You help on this matter would be greatly appreciated

To Dorico, two tied quarter notes and a half note are the same thing: A note that lasts for two beats. How that gets notated depends on the settings in Notation Options.

With default settings in 4/4 meter, I get a half note in bar 2 and two tied quarters in bar 4, because different rules apply. If you go to Notation Options > Note Grouping, this setting will get you a half note in bar 4.

Note that Notation Options apply to the entire flow. You can also change how an individual note is notated by using Force Duration. In general, the best approach is to set Notation Options so that most things look the way you want, and save Force Duration for exceptions.
