At the risk of piling on, I’ll add my voice to this feature request. I’m getting to the end of a large orchestral project (my first Dorico score!) and began today looking at the parts. I was very surprised to see that the repeat bar region(s) don’t hide the notes they’re replacing.
I’ll add my voice as well to requests for this feature -i.e. show repeat region symbols in player part while showing notes in score. Just looked this up while working on a score that could use this feature and am surprised it’s not a one or two click feature yet. Or maybe I’ve missed it as of July 2025?
I see there was an earlier post (6 Jan) I’d like to follow on from, and I’m surprised more commercial writers haven’t brought up this issue. It would make a lot of sense for bar repeat regions to behave the same as slash regions, i.e. hide the notes but play them back. The repeat function in Dorico is great, but in rhythm section writing we often need to write fills and minor variations that will characterize a mockup, but are best left to the players to interpret in a live performance, e.g. cues, setting up, bass/chord parts etc. If we prefer using repeat marks to many slashes (as I do) in rhythm parts, it’s problematic in Dorico. If this feature is forthcoming it’ll be a game changer for sure.. I get that the developers must be swamped with a million requests, but this seems like quite a fundamental issue, especially for jazz/commercial writers. If there’s already a solution for this I’d be happy to hear it.. I’m a new user after 30+ years of Finale, and am excited about Dorico; definitely the way to go.
I just finished a piece for concert band where this would have been nice. I need the bar repeats in the parts because it’s almost impossible to balance the pages with all the music showing, yet having bar repeats in a score is amateurish. I’ve accepted the repeats in the score, since there is little else I can do, but that is suboptimal at best. I hope they address this soon, as it shouldn’t even be an issue.
Would like this also. Percussionist won’t appreciate bars of notes, but rather the repeat notations. Would still like the underlying notes to play out for listening while writing.
getting back to this in 2026 - if for example I’m writing a drum part for which I have written a rhythm that spans two bars. After these I’d like to show a bar of slashes and then several bar repeats, to indicate to keep playing something like that. Currently the only way is to put two bars of slash region, followed by two bars repeats (%2).
I didn’t have any issues creating this in the expected way. I entered the first 2 bars normally. I selected the third bar, opened the repeats popover with Shift+R, typed slash and hit Enter. Then I selected the next 5 bars, opened the repeats popover again, typed % and hit Enter.
