Notes get stuck on all the time now. The software is practically unusable. After inputting 1 or 2 notes, there will be a note permanently sounding and then subsequent notes stick and accumulate. The only fix I have found is to turn off Activation and then turn it on again to be able to input more notes but after inputting another 1 or 2 notes is happens again.
I am running Dorico Pro 6 on an 2019 Intel MacBook Pro, running the latest Mac OS.
Does this happens only in one specific Project or in all new projects?
Did you try reapplying the Playback template or applying a different Playback Template?
you may have a midi loop situation (more difficult to diagnose): does the issue happen also if you disconnect all you MIDI devices, and/or deselect all of them in the Preferences/Play/MIDI input devices, and enter the notes only with your computer keyboard or mouse?
Maybe you have a faulty sustain pedal that sends continuously a CC64 signal so the notes will remain, as you describe (and disconnecting/deactivating it could tell if there is a problem with the sustain pedal).
Or for some reason you have some entries in the CC64 lane in Key Editor, which would activate the āsustainā.
-You could also try activating the Filter out MIDI controllers in Preferences/Play/Recording (I think this would take effect in case you are live recording)
@Robert_Smallwood
I saw that you had already similar issues, from the Facebook group for Finale refugees (on 6 October 2025), but you didnāt wrote any further replies. Did you manage to solve the issue at that time?:
@Ulf mentioned yesterday that this is a bug which has been fixed, and that the fix will be in the next maintenance update (release date unknown at this time).
Note sticking happens to me only occasionally when inputting notes with a MIDI keyboard. Iāve found that when a note sticks, if I click on the note in the score thatās stuck, the note will unstick. Iām not sure if thatās universally applicable for all cases of stuck notes, though.
Hi @hamhm3 , my posting about a fix was related to a different issue, namely the problem that the sounds often change during note input. For that I know we have a fix. For the sticking notes issue though, I am not aware of a fix.
Yes I forgot to mention in my post that the sounds change during input from whatever voice or instrument is specified often to something else in the score, usually strings.
Iām sorry to hear about this problem. Thereās no known issue with notes getting stuck. Could you please do Help > Create Diagnostic Report and attach the resulting zip file here so I can take a look and see if anything in the logs jumps out at me?
Sorry I have taken so long to reply to your email. I was working away from my home (and home computer with Dorico) all last week.
Thank you for following up on this matter. I wondered if my 2019 Intel MacBook Pro no longer supports up to date software and if I need to upgrade to an M-series Mac. But in every other respect, even an old Mac works perfectly well and meets all my requirements.
Please find attached the diagnostic file you requested.
Thanks for your response. In answer to your questions:
This happens on all projects.
I have tried all options: switching from Note Performer back to Dorico default, etc etc. I am much more knowledgeable about music than I am about MIDI and software, but tried everything I can.
The input keyboard I use is a desk keyboard (with no internal sounds of its own). It doesnāt have a sustain pedal. I have connected an alternative my keyboard, which has sustain, and the problem persists.
Someone from Steinberg who monitors forums has contacted me and asked me to provide a copy of a file with the problem. Perhaps it will be resolved now.
I did not solve the issue after I posted to āDorico for Finale Refugeesā and stopped posting there.
I wonder if my 2019 Intel MacBook Pro no longer supports modern software designed for the M-series Apple chips and if I need to upgrade. A 7-year old Mac is still robust and does everything else I require of it. I donāt want to have to upgrade but will do if I can be sure it will resolve the problem, since music and music software is my primary motivation.
I hope not because Iām running the same hardware. Stuck notes is a new issue that appeared in version 6 for me (same as MIDI through switching instruments).
Is there any progress on the issue of sticking notes and/or voices swapping around? The sticking notes is making it almost impossible for me to enter work except if I turn off sound. Which means I cannot check the accuracy of the input by ear and need to check everything by sight.
Hi - you know whatās coming⦠a request that you also attach a diagnostic log file, maybe a small (dummy) project that shows the issue, too..? The more detail the better; anything that helps the devs investigate furtherā¦
Hi all: Iām new to this forum. I have a similar problem but with cantai sticking on end notes of vocal phrases. Iāve tried shortening the note on the word ācoachedā which is sung as one syllable which causes the note to become silent. Iāve also tried to shorten the midi note in the piano roll, which does not seem to make a differnce at all. I have the same problem with another voice on the word āhomeā. After each part re-renders, I still have the same result. Restarting Dorico doesnāt remedy the situation either. Iāve also tried Deactivate/Activate Locked Play durations. Iām on a Mac MIni M4.
