Notes vs instrument

Am working on a file in the key of A. I will like to know which instrument I should use for the melody. I tried with a flute but the notes below the middle C are not playing. Is there a way to have the notes sounds even if the notes are not in the range of the instrument?

Your help on this matter to solve this problem would be greatly appreciated.

Germain,

You can override the default/set/factory ranges for most instruments in Library > Instruments > select (in your case) flute; then - in the Edit Instruments dialogue area - set the lowest and highest pitches for ‘standard’ players, and ‘advanced’ players.

If you’re confident that this will not compromise the quality of the score you produce for players, the notepads which now have a red background (indicating out-of-range) will not, and be audible.

The Alto Flute goes down to G if that is the timbre you want.

instead of using an instrument you could also start with writing the melody in a sketch treble system. So you have a piano sound and treble clef. Later you still can change the instrument to whatever you’d like

The playback sounds ranges are limited by the sound library that you use.
If you are not too concerned about playback quality, you could use one of the Halion Sonic Selection templates. These use General MIDI sounds that have no range limits.

Do Play>Playback Templates (and hit the Show All Factory button)

Thanks Janus for your instructions I will definitively try it and let you know if I made it ok
