Nothing in the editor

Hi there,

Quite new to Cubase but orchestrating a piece and doing ok but all of a sudden there’s no notes in the Editor for one of my violin parts.

The other parts look like this:

Hello,
how can we help? The on-the-nose answer would be: “Put some notes into the violin 1 part”.

Were there notes in the part already? Then look into the Edit → Undo History if the got deleted.

Hi Johnny,

There are notes in the violin part, they show in the project window and in playback.

Nothing was deleted. They’re there in everything but the editor.

If a part is showing the diagonal lines in the project it means that there are several parts overlapping. Possibly you have an empty part and another one with the notes. The empty part is “on top”, so it gets opened when you click it.
See item 5 in this chapter of the manual:

You can either simply delete the empty part or bring the full part to the front.

Thank you, I was wondering what the diagonal lines represented.

This is all new to me so I’m struggling a bit, I didn’t quite have the brain space for the link, but thanks for including, I’ll try again later, but I did find how to move tracks to the front/back, moving to the back solved the problem.

I seem to have got in quite a muddle, I would like to clean things up a bit. I’ve found Project - Remove Empty Tracks, but the diagonal lines are still there. Is there anything else I can do?

Tracks are not Parts. Parts are just these blocks on a track. If you want to get rid of empty parts you’ll have to delete them manually, I’m afraid.

Nothing to do with the topic, but do you know that you can drag an image file into the edit box and it will be uploaded?
I don’t know about anyone else, but having to download a pdf file and then finding it to delete it is a bit of a pain.

I have run into this a couple of times. Try to use the glue tool on the track that is there but not showing up in the editor. That has worked for me…

Thank you both for your replies.

I’m sorry my beginner status in Cubase, DAWS etc means that I didn’t understand the reference to image files and pdf’s…

And I’ll try the glue tool on a copy of the project just in case! Thanks.

I learnt of another way of addressing old overlapping tracks, there’s this arrow, see below, and if you click on it it gives you a drop down menu of all the tracks, you can delete which ever you don’t want.
