I am wanting to switch my 2 keyboard rig to a 2 keyboard midi rig using VST Live [VL]. I am new-ish to this so I am starting simply by connecting an Impulse 61 to the computer via USB. VL recognized it in the midi settings. I set in and out onto channel one as well as the Novation. But no sound. No knobs or sliders are recognized but if I view the Midi Monitor I can see it’s seeing all the data come in.
Do I need to Map this?
Is there a simple video that walks us through a simple live rig set up? (not that 4 minute thing from Steinberg, it covers nothing.
Thanks. This video doesn’t speak about the midi controller at all - or possible issues. I probably have to find a YouTube person who will talk about HUI, Firmware updates and a other stuff like that. The Impulse is an older instrument but it should work - they still sell them.
Too bad my free 30 day ran out before I could figure it all out. Maybe I’ll go with Mainstage instead. It’s more widely used.
Layers process MIDI data input from your keyboard(s) to some destination (“Instrument”), which can be plugins, or physical MIDI outputs. It is not clear what you mean by “don’t hear anything”, you will have to connect to your audio interface, and then when you select your keyboard as input to a Layer, and for instance Halion Sonic as the output instrument, you should hear it. Make sure a preset is assigned to the plugin, use the “e” button in the Layer to open the plugin editor.
