Assuming you’re not using an NPPE, then NP by default treats rests as a mute/choke with regards to any percussion that rings (unless you specify l.v. or a l.v. tie). You can add a choke symbol above the note which may help, but my question would be: is it ringing out indefinitely, or just a bit too long?
Because if the latter, this is an issue I’ve raised with Wallander and not sure if it’s been fixed, where percussion cannot be muted for very fast notes regardless of note value and rest. Anything shorter than an 8th note is ignored, and to my ears NP makes no clear distinction between a quarter note or 8th note (or barely perceptible), instead allowing both to ring for the length of approximately a 1/2 note. You can test this by comparing 8th to even shorter values and there won’t be an audible change. For percussion where muting and choking often needs to be rhythmically precise, it’s a bit of a bummer.
However if what you are saying is an indefinite ring, I would try adding a choke symbol first.
Finally if you are still using an NPPE, some of those didn’t respect rests as a mute, and must be forced either through the choke symbol, mute, or even manual automation of specific CC lanes or CC7.

Interesting - with NP native it’s supposed to mute at rests (no need for additional techniques). I tested now and that’s how it’s working for me (granted still ringing out a bit longer than I’d like as per my above issue, but definitely not ringing out indefinitely!). My first thought would be to reset the playback template if you haven’t already done so, and also to check to make sure there isn’t any hidden automation or midi information preventing correct playback. Failing that, I would reach out directly to Wallander since they are pretty helpful!
