I just bought a new computer with Windows 11 pre-installed. I use Nuendo 10 and with the computer paid and already at home I see the Steinberg page that Nuendo 10 is “Not officially compatible” with W11. Does this mean that I will not be able to install it in any way?
I have run out of money to upgrade to Nuendo 12 and need to be able to continue working.
Thank you so much.
I see no reason why N10 shouldn’t run on Windows 11. Actually all programs run under Windows 10 and 11.
I’ve had Windows 11 since day one and unfortunately I don’t remember if N10 was still on the road back then. The chance should be over 99%. You are more likely to have problems with drivers for audio interfaces or other peripherals that are already very old.
Thank you very much for your answer THambrecht.
The fact is that on the STEIMBERG compatibility page it says that NUENDO 10 is “Officially not compatible”. I didn’t quite understand that “officially” thing, I thought, It is or it is not.
An affectionate greeting.
This means that Steinberg does not guarantee that everything will work as desired. Perhaps Steinberg does not want to invest the time to test the interaction between N10 and WIN11 and an older Nuendo version.
But I would like to agree with @THambrecht : If anything, I would expect problems with drivers. Not so much Nuendo issues. (But please don’t sue me if there are problems with Nuendo and WIN11. )
All the “officially” means is that they don’t want to test or support it. So if you have issues, they aren’t going to help you. Companies do that with older software because it becomes a support nightmare to keep testing older stuff with newer stuff. As a practical matter you could probably load up Nuedno 1 on Windows 11 and I’d give it a good chance of running fine, the backwards compatibility of Windows is quite good.
Nuendo 10 may well work fine on Windows 11, but Steinberg has not tested it officially and does not guarantee that it will work correctly. Nuendo 11 had been released before the official release date of Windows 11, so it was Nuendo 11 that Steinberg tested on Windows 11 and guaranteed was compatible.
The chances are that Nuendo 10 will work fine - you have nothing to lose by trying it. However, if it malfunctions, Steinberg Support will tell you to update to Nuendo 12, as that is officially compatible. I know you said that you had no budget for an update, but it is worth noting that Nuendo version updates are half-price in the current sale.
Thank you all very much for your responses.
Yesterday I received the letter from Steinberg offering their summer sales and I think with a little effort I can upgrade the N10 to the N12. Now, as T.Hambrecht and Mas says, my fight will be the performance of my MOTU 896MK3.
Thanks again and greetings to all.
