Nuendo 14 Export Hangs with Modulators

Hi everyone,

I’m experiencing a persistent issue with Nuendo 14.0.20 crashing during export when Modulators are present on any track.

Whenever I try to export a mixdown that contains any tracks with Modulators, Nuendo hangs forever on the “Perform Audio Export” window. It doesn’t crash, but just hangs there forever, with the bar not moving, so I don’t have a crash report as it’s not technically crashed. I have to force quit it myself.

The export process starts normally and appears to be working at first but consistently hangs mid-way through. I’ve tried to let it hang for hours, and even overnight just to test, but obviously it’s indefinitely frozen.

The only solution I’ve found is using Real-Time Export, which works but isn’t ideal.

To Reproduce:

  1. Create any track with Modulators
  2. Try to export (File > Export > Audio Mixdown; in case it matters I’m specifically exporting different cycle markers)
  3. Nuendo hangs forever
  • I’ve checked both Console.app and the DiagnosticReports folder but there isn’t anything related to Nuendo or these hangs/crashes.
  • Regular export works fine if I render the tracks using modulators to audio. I also have no trouble exporting projects without modulators.
  • Real-Time Export also works

Has anyone else encountered this issue?

My specs:

  • MBP 16" 2024, M4 Max
  • 128 GB RAM
  • macOS Squoria 15.3.2
  • Nuendo 14.0.20

Quickly, for testing. Padshop track created with midi part. LFO inserted as modulator. No problem with the export. MacOS 15.4, Mini M4, Nuendo 14.

I just did some more testing on my end, and it seems like this only happens once there’s multiple modulators and regular track automation in the track. I just tried doing what you did and it works, however if I try loading more modulators, and also have some regular automation on the track, it freezes on export without fail.

Attaching both a screenshot and .npr of a project with just Retrologue, some MIDI notes, 2 LFOs and some regular automations. Freezes every time I try to export, but works fine in Real-Time. If I delete the modulators, it also exports offline just fine.

P.S. I mean confirmed, it also freezes for me :wink:

Just got the same problem here. It was strange because I got a louder project with more modulators exporting without problem before this one.
Hoping it will be solved in a next update I really like those modulators :slight_smile:
