Product: Nuendo 14 (bug present since at least Nuendo 7)
Issue Summary:
There is a long-standing bug in Nuendo involving the Punch Log and Scene Presets on the Automation Panel. When using the Punch Log to record automation and saving multiple presets (with lock and checkmark enabled), all entries can randomly disappear under specific conditions involving project switching and copy-pasting events.
Steps to Reproduce (approximate):
- In Project A, record automation using the Punch Log.
- Save multiple Scene Presets, each with lock and checkmark enabled.
- Open another project (Project B) in parallel and make it active.
- Copy one or more events (MIDI or automation data) from Project B.
- Reactivate Project A.
Expected Result:
Punch Log entries and Scene Presets in Project A should remain intact and protected.
Actual Result:
Upon returning to Project A, all Punch Log entries and Scene Presets are gone, even if locked. The entire log area is empty.
Important Notes:
- This bug has occurred randomly across many projects over the years, starting from Nuendo 7 up to Nuendo 14.
- The exact conditions are not fully deterministic, but the bug only seems to trigger after copying events from an inactive project.
- It is unclear if Write Enable status on tracks (enabled, partially enabled, or off) has an effect — but the issue seems to persist regardless of that.
- I haven’t been able to reproduce it reliably with completely clean/simple projects, but in complex sessions, this almost always happens eventually when switching between projects and using Punch Log.
Question to other users:
Has anyone else encountered this issue or is anyone still using the Punch Log workflow with saved Scene Presets regularly? This seems like a long-standing and overlooked problem.
