To me Aphex Twin styled music is a lot harder to create than writing a guitar song in 2026.
“a guitar song”? What are we talking about here? Go pick a random top 10 songwriters of all time chart and you’ll likely see Lennon and McCartney in the top 5, or at least top 10. Expand the list to top 50 or top 100 and you’re unlikely to see Aphex Twin or similar.
Writing songs (manually) as great as what The Beatles wrote ain’t easy, no matter the year, and giving Aphex Twin’s music a quick listen tells me that as far as songwriting goes they aren’t even close.
Now as for production you might have had a point if all we did was compare Please Please Me with whatever and took that at face value. Two things though;
First: the tools available in 1960-1970 were radically different and far more limiting than what we have today. You want to add a reverse voice to your track? Ok, go ahead and get a tape deck and record the voice, then swap reel direction, then route to another deck and record that onto a free track. Have fun timing it out, 'cause there ain’t not time stretching. You want to loop a 30 second section? Ok, out with the razor blade and tape ends together, and then figure out a way to get the tape to actually loop around. Maybe having to loop it around a mic stand.
Yu want a string section to play stuff? Cool. Write the score, have the copyist write out the parts. Orchestra? Great. Just takes longer. Oh, and slap a mic or 20 on the orchestra. Hope the room is big enough and sounds good.
Second. I’m not a drummer. You know how my time is when I play drums in Nuendo? 100%. Not just once. Every single time I press the space bar (play). Perfect. Same with bass. literally anything can be absolutely perfect. Pitch too. Never a need to tune up or intonate. Just perfect.
Time travel back to '66 , compose, orchestrate, play, and engineer Tomorrow Never Knows… and then come back and tell me it’s harder to put together an Aphex Twin styled track.
Oh, and please pass the pipe…
Wildly off-topic now. I don’t know about you, but when I’m involved in making music, the intent is to communicate from artist to audience and invoke an emotional response.
If you want to impress other engineers (or electronic music producers), that’s another story. Your examples are same planet, different worlds when it comes to connecting emotionally with a broad audience. Creating that connection is never easy, regardless of genre.
It’s nice to see the spirit of the old forum blossoming again.
Lol, first, you were rambling about how you prefer “elite exclusive”, “nothing comes easy” systems that encouraged “unique sound”, and then followed by how you need “quick and easy MIDI manipulation methods”, and then followed by how clearly little you actually know about the Beatles - and those systems that actually paved the way for your electronic music. Lol, you don’t realize how full–of-s*** you sound, do ya?
In fact, electronic music production is the closest “effort” to AI.
There are many out there like you - they love to virtue-signal about being anti-AI, pretending like as if they’re “in touch with the old school” to garner approval, but when you look at their own work, AI actually does a better job…….lol. ![]()
I own most of The Beatles albums.
My argument is the tequniques involved in music production.
Guitar music is very basic, generic and lame, hasn’t changed much since the 1980s.
Electronic music producers are light years ahead of Rock producers, this is why there are literally NO ROCK bands in the Billboard 200 !!!
I’m Glad Steinberg have realised this and have shifted Cubendo towards Electronic producers and away from 1980s inspired AOR rock mixers.
OASIS were the biggest selling Rock band in 2025, they haven’t released a single in 17 years and there biggest hits from 30 years ago were derivative works from bands 30 years prior !
If Cubase hadnt shifted towards EDM/Trap producers, it would be a dead DAW right now.
… did you even listen to the two examples I posted? Ever heard an album called “Abbey Road”? Songs like “Blackbird”, “Sun King”, or earlier trailblazing tracks like “Revolution #9”?
“Simple” … oh well. Don’t get me wrong: My own 45+ years in music are firmly founded in its electronic varieties, but this statement is hilarious.
Try to arrange some song like “God Only Knows”. In fact, compose, produce and arrange. There’s nothing in electronic music that can touch something like that.
But it depends on how the electricity is produced.
‘Electronic music’ sounds better when the electricity is generated using solar energy.
As an expert, you surely know that. ![]()
C’mon people, this user is clearly a troll. No one can say so much bullshit being serious about it.
Just let this discussion die and let’s get back on topic, please.

Haha, that pretty much sums it up @T-Cup !
I kind of liked when this one got off topic this time, we need a good Beatles debate every once in a while. BUT to your point, Nuendo 15 is around the corner, I’m checking for any feature leaks every few days, and Steinberg plus all their beta testers are keeping their mouths LOCKED TIGHT. Impressive. No leaks. Gotta hand it to Steinberg for being consistent, although it would be nice if they gave us a little sneak peek…..
I came to view Nuendo because I’m interested in music for games but got a lot extra ![]()
I’ll be quiet and let the topic get back on track.
Is that to say we are finally continuing to debate the significance of The Beatles? 8•)
I love the Beatles please carry on ![]()
Your argument involved composition, not just production.
Ok, but you said the 1960s first. Also, what is “guitar music”? Is it The Beatles, or is it Holdsworth, or is it Marc Ducret?
Don’t confuse popular with “good”.
And again, did you actually think about what goes into producing some of the Beatles songs, from composition to performance?
Ah who cares? It’ll be announced soon enough and nothing we say in this thread will change what’s in it, how much it’ll cost or when it will be released.
I guess whoever reads the title and opens the topic due to that?
Do as you may. But its a stupid discussion with some 13yo troll or someone who clearly has no idea what they’re talking about.
Ok fine, but here is the topic:
It’s coming, grace period is on, they never announce the release date and price until they do, and the topic of “why do we have to wait” has existed for years.
I just don’t see much new to discuss in this thread.
But fair enough, I’ll stop the discussion about the thing.
