Here’s a new one: AAF import of music grabbed only one side of several music tracks. Almost went back to the video editor to ask them to fix it, but then I just opened it in PT instead. Re-export. Re-import.
And “no”, before anyone asks, I won’t stop complaining about this until it’s improved.
Would you feel better if it were Timo himself explaining how to set up a complicated Cubendo vca group? Seems to me the general forum population does well across all the product areas regarding support.
Daniel (and others) answer “how-to” Dorico questions. Never a confirmation “here’s what future versions will have”.
Philippe (and others) answer “how-to” Wavelab questions. Never a confirmation “here’s what future versions will have”.
Robin (and others) answer “how-to” Spectralayers questions. Never a confirmation “here’s what future versions will have”.
My thoughts exactly. Robin seems kind of like the mad genius who is working away in his lab until the light of day when a new update is released, then he pops out of his lab. PG, on the other hand, in the WaveLab forum, is pretty much always there. That guy is a real gem. Will be sad when he retires! Steinberg better have a good continuity plan for him.
Along with Dorico, etc., this all highlights how Steinberg operates kind of as a syndicate of different product teams, as opposed to a unified top-down enterprise with the same policies. Personally, I’m fine with it. It’s worked so far, and as long as they don’t get bought out by some venture capital firm who will destroy them and turn them into another subscription mess, then it’s okay by me. BUT I would still like the Nuendo team to take notes from the other teams that communicate more…

Had this happen last week. AAF originated from Premiere (latest version). Opened in PT and exported an AAF from there. That imported correctly into Nuendo.
I really wish they would fix this. It’s one of the biggest issues keeping me from fully switching from PT - that and the DOP bug(s).
I see your point, and it wasn’t really meant as an analogy as such. I guess it also makes sense that the Dorico team is more actively involved, since the software is only 10 years old and still “in the making”. My impression is that they are absolutely commenting on feature requests and not only answering “how to” questions. I don’t know about WaveLab or SpectraLayers since I’m not familiar with those sides of the forums.
I’m not around here that much, so I was not aware of any growing dissatisfaction by certain users on the Nuendo side either, before reading this thread. I’m mostly happy, except:
I’m not too keen on the increasingly “flat” UI look that’s been rolling out since around v11-12. Initially I was more positive, but seeing it implemented more and more, and lastly how it made the control room much harder to look at in v14, I’m starting to think that this design direction might have been a bad idea from the start.
The divider in the project window is kind of a struggle, as tracks and events stay selected in the upper part when you really only want to change something in the lower part. The MIDI editor has something called Global Tracks, which is much more clean. I would like Global Tracks to be a part of the main edit window, please.
And a “today’s date” option in the naming scheme in the Mixdown Export please.
Aaaaaand faster rendering times, please. Pro Tools rendering is a LOT faster.
I very rarely need to import AAF’s, but the few times I’ve tried (from Premiere Pro), I’ve never succeeded. Had to do it with OMF instead…
Absolutely agree. The Dorico team see the forum as a fundemental part of the ongoing overall development of the produc, growing the user base, and providing customer satisfaction. Their responsiveness is very quick indeed. On Cubase and Nuendo response from moderators or developmental team members is very limited - even when an issue has been identified by more than a few users. It’s a shame, if the moderators here were a bit more responsive it would be good.
Could it also have something to do with the forum software? In any case, I have to make an effort to keep track of things here and not lose the thread. The Dorico developers seem to have a slightly better grasp of this type of user forum.
Might actually.be partly to do with a geographical difference (or even perhaps cultural). The Dorico team are mostly based in London whereas Cubase/Nuendo Germany (Hamburg). Of course this might have broadened out a lot since the pandemic and people may be more remotely based and international. i do know that Daniel (Spreadbury) who leads the Dorico team originally started on helpdesk support during his days with Sibelius and indeed single handedly built the early Sibelius user manuals. So he certainly fully understands the value of quality communication with end-users via fora (forums).
The obvious difference between the DAW’s, and Notation Packages, is that there is no dedicated “team” for the former, but instead there are staff working on support across multiple packages, including plug-in’s.
Due to the nature of the types of data in question, MIDI/notation versus MIDI/audio, there is an obvious need for more nuanced or dedicated support, in the case of the former, as opposed to the latter, which besides the passage of time that each application has seen; is not in the early stages of development.
