Hi!
I’ve just gone through a 2h30 documentary with heavy audio restoration, and while Spectralayers has solidified its position as an outstanding and invaluable tool, ARA2 in Nuendo has gone the other way and established itself as an immature, unstable and a general pain in the ass platform, that I’d like to avoid whenever possible.
I know I could do some basic editing, bounce the audio from each scene, open them in SL standalone, do the work, then update the files in Nuendo - either by ovewriting them so Nuendo opens the new ones instead, or manually replacing them with a new name.
But this seems not only extremely cumbersome, but also would make it impossible to work with the context of the other sounds and also impossible to edit in SL while watching the video.
Do you have any suggestions of possible workflows?
I’m really tired of all the sluggishness, crashes, lost work, etc. from using ARA2 (note that AAP2 is also very problematic in ARA2, I don’t think this is a SL problem.)
Thanks!

Henrique, this is the kicker, ain’t it? I know my film really well…been working on it since 2017…but if I was working on client films coming to me for audio? Sounds like a nightmare with ARA.
I’m in standalone for now…I wish I could help you
I’m officially afraid of ARA mode now…I’m just about to purchase Cubase13 Pro, too
There could be a third way when it comes to workflow.
You can have both Nuendo and SL open At the same time and drag and drop Parts and Layers back and forth between the apps.
Can’t swear the timing will be right when coming back to Nuendo though.
should be if overwrite file names
which is how I approach it
well this is very interesting!
Can I just like drag the layers and it automatically exports them and paste them into the timeline?
If I can do that, then save the SL project and move on to another file, etc. then that is absolutely great news!

File names are not touched this way.
You just shuffle parts between two open standalone apps.
When shuffling back from SL to Nuendo it could be wise to use an appropriate Snap function (like snap to events).
this is great! thanks marshie!

this is not possible in my current DAW…Drag and Drop not gonna happen
I don’t “bounce” like you guys; I write a new file;
place that in my job.
I don’t lose sync becuz I make a comp in my job and make sure the starting point of my SL comp corresponds
If I find NR issues I missed, go back into SL, do my edits and overwrite the file name my DAW is pointing at
it’s actually very effective, if not totally old school
…also doesn’t bloat
