Object Selection Tool appears to be broken in Cubase 15

When I right click and open the Object Selection Tool, left clicking a tool to open the drop down menus just closes the Object Selection Tool completely. I noticed in C14 that although it still technically worked, left clicking a drop down menu takes a few seconds of click/holding. I use the time stretching drop down menu constantly, so now having to stop and navigate to the tools at the top of the app is not ok. Anyone else notice this?

Windows 11 Pro 25H2

Yes, I have the same issue, except its any tool I click. I have to click the arrow selector, then select the tool I want for it to work.

Steps to repro:

  1. Record some midi on any track
  2. Open the midi editor in a new window with the arrow already selected
  3. Right click on the screen to change tool (for example to scissors)
  4. Click on the middle of an active midi note to split the note

Expected:

Scissor tool selected and splits the midi note when selected

Actual:

Scissor tool selected, but is still functioning as an arrow.

Fix: I have to select the arrow from the menu, then select the scissor from a the menu.

System: Windows 11 Pro-23H2 22631.6060 (running on an NVIDA 3070TI, v581.80)

@Themystro1 , I followed your repro steps but if I select the scissor tool and click on a midi event it splits the event as expected.

Double click on a midi part to open the editor in a new window (with the arrow already selected)
Right click in the window and select scissors
Click on a midi event - the event splits.

Windows 11 25H2.

Or in other words: you can’t access any pop up menus in the tool box context.
Same here. Only the tool box in the tool bar works. Surely a bug.
Version 15.0.5.121

Oh dear.. I use this a lot (from the right-click toolbox).

Steinberg, please note for a first patch release fix.!

Maybe a bug, but at least the dobble and tripple clicking on the keycommands is intact even when you open the tool by rigth clicking in the project window.

rigth click and select the pointer, then click 1 to select alternate tool in dropdown.

Good call, but definitely a bug

Confirm, The object selection tool Right click then left click is a bug.

Please fix.

Im getting the same, and its a pain in the ass. Please fix

Thank you all for chiming in! Definitely a bug but for me it’s just the beginning of the ā€œnot ready for releaseā€ release we just got.

Hi im on Cubase Pro 15.0.06:

how do i selec the SUBMENU tools like Timestretch etc

When I hold the tool in the small toolbox nothing happens

Im a lefty, so my mouse keys are the other way around

Is there an alternative to select these ā€œalternativeā€ tools? Specially stretch is important…(apart from adding to toolbar menu above, i keep it super empty)

Currently you can’t select additional tools with the right-click toolbar.
Use key commands or the toolbar in the menu bar instead.
And pray that Steinberg thinks they ought to devote their precious time to fix it.

okidoki

i actually forgot there is a key command for this

yeah I also can’t left click on a tool to change it to time stretch..it just closes the toolbar thing -.-

As others said before - for the time being just use key commands.
I got so used to it that I will probably not go back to the toolbox once it is fixed.

You can assign any key command to any tool. E.g., ā€œ1ā€ is still assigned to object selection. I just click once more to get to its other functions like time stretch.

The only thing that bothers me is that the assigned key commands are not reflected by the order of tools in the toolbox. By default, it isn’t since Cubase 13 or 14.

Apart from that, key commands are easy to use IF you are a key command kinda guy anyways.

Hi everyone - is this still the same in 15.0.20.? Not updating yet (for other reasons).

Thanks for your attention.

PS:- hey @Reco29 well, I’m not a big ā€˜key command’ user… But ok, I have been using it/them in this case, because I’m having to use one… sigh.

My bigger issue is I just can’t stand stuff getting broken from one version to the next; a perfectly good, convenient, fast workflow gone.

Quoting M. Jackson: ā€œYou are not alone.ā€

Yeah, that’s completly understandable. We are all used to a certain workflow to get things done as quick as possible. I hope they get it fixed soon!

Yes, thanks… Ok, so you’re confirming it’s not fixed at 15.0.20 …

It’s sad something like this could well take years to be brought back - so many other (higher priority) things ahead of it…

And to be clear, the Right-click, hold, then Left-click is gone from all of them - ā€˜Arrow’, ā€˜Warp’, ā€˜Line’, ā€˜Play’ tools too.

Is this the same issue I posted about for Cubase 14?

Just for clarification, in Cubase 15.0.20

  • the fixed toolbox in the toolbar above shows all options of the selected tool after double left-clicking
  • the floating toolbox that pops up by right clicking in the project window does not show these options

Can you confirm, too, @mlib?
The floating toolbox worked as expected after the Cubase 14.0.10 update but not anymore in Cubase 15.0.20.
