Odd Bar layout

Hi. Why do I get an odd 4 bars at the end which are not the same as all the previous bars? I’ve set prefs to 4 bars per line and 32 bars length (as this is my preferred working layout). When I try to delete the odd bars it will delete the last 3 bars then proceed to delete the previous bars still leaving 1 odd bar at the end? Not sure how to upload screen shot,

Take the screenshot and then use the upload button to attach the file to a post:

I think I’ve sussed it. It was a visual thing as per Finale when I opened my default file it was laid out as 32 bars with 4 bars per staff so if I needed to start writing say 16 bars in I would start there. In Dorico I think I need just to input notes from bar 1 and insert bars at a later stage.

Exactly, Dorico will create more bars when you get to the end of the flow and continue inputting notes.

For setting 4 bars per system, it looks like you’ve worked that out, but here’s a link to casting off anyway or for anyone else finding this thread:

And for the short final system, see here:

Thank you that helped a great deal. I’d imported a lead sheet template from a .xml file and I kept getting these odd bars at the end so I presumed the file maybe corrupted and set about creating a new template from scratch which resulted in the same odd bars. Oh the joys of wisdom.

It’s easy when you know

Don’t worry I’ve got lots of questions to be answered but I’ll try and work them out myself until I get frustrated.

Don’t feel like you have to wait too long! As you can see, we’re a friendly and responsive bunch here, even at the moment when there’s a lot of questions

(and I love the ones where the answer is “Dorico has an option for this” and everyone goes away happy!)
