Odd behavior - clicking on notes (or moving them) doesn't sound correct pitch

I’ve had some odd behavior for a week or so now.

As I’m entering notes I hear the correct pitches. I also hear the correct pitches when I playback.

But when I click on a note to edit it, I hear a different pitch. Any note I click on plays that same note. Also - when I option-upArrow a note to move it diatonically (or shift-option-upArrow to move it chromatically) it always sounds that same note. But after moving the notes, playback is correct.

Is there some preference I turned off by mistake somehow? I’m in MacOS on the latest update (Tahoe 26.5.2)

Does this happen in all projects or a particular one?

Does this happen in all projects or a particular one?

Just a single project.

It is an empty full orchestra score where I have been simply composing in the piano staves that are part of the orchestra. I’ve been doing the writing in the piano’s individual layout using Fill View:

I’m finding this a very convenient format for composing. I’m seeing a lot of my writing as I work, but when I go later to put it into score, the sketch (with meters, etc.) will already be there.

Could my working in Fill View have caused the issue (though i hear the same wrong notes when I click on them in Score View for the full score)? Could my creating meter changes and doing note entry in a part instead of a score be causing an issue?

Two things which come to mind, if only for the sake of eliminating them from the list of possible causes, are:

  1. the added staff in the piano,
    and
  2. have you made any changes or edits to the instrument definition?

To test if either of these makes a difference you could add another piano (stock standard, no changes) to the score but don’t add the extra staff yet. Copy the notation on the two original staves in the original piano part and paste them into the corresponding staves in the newly-added piano. Do what you described in your first post to see if the problem is also in the new piano. If it is not, add an extra staff to the new piano and copy and paste its notation from the original piano. Select a note in this staff and check for the wrong pitch problem again. If everything is behaving itself, you could probably delete the original piano player (that’s up to you). If the problem manifests itself in the new piano, I am sure that the development team would probably want to examine the Dorico project.

As suggested above I duplicated the player. Adding material and then adding an extra staff did NOT reproduce the problem. The old piano continued to have the issue, the new one did not.

So my workaround is to simply move everything to the new player and eliminate the old one. Hopefully the same issue will not recur.

However that does not answer the question of how this happened. If anyone is interested, I’m enclosing a link to the file with only the problematic piano in the score.
