Odd Hairpin Behaviour in Cutaway Score

I have a measure in a piece where I have to reduce the Minimum Length for Hairpins to 1/2 to get the hairpins to appear in this measure (picture 1). When I change to a cutaway score, the hairpin extends 1/3 of the way into the next measure, which has been removed because it is empty, and the ending dynamic remains in the previous measure (picture 2).

I entered the original dynamics using the popover and entering “pp”. When I use the carat entry and manually enter each dynamic so that the final pp is at the end of the measure rather than at the beginning of the following measure, the cutaway display issue goes away (picture 3).

Changing the Minimum Number of Empty Bars Before Cutting Away to equal 2 doesn’t fix the problem (picture 4).

Any thoughts on what’s causing this and how I can fix it. I’d rather not manually enter each dynamic in these situations.

Thanks!

There are a bunch of similar kinds of situations like this, e.g. the final bar of the flow, instrument changes, etc., as well as cutaways. Basically, as you know, if you have a dynamic at the start of a bar where a rest is present, the dynamic will be moved back into the previous bar graphically.

Your best bet, I think, is indeed to manually place the final dynamic at the end of the last bar you want to be shown, rather than at the start of the following bar, but I would also recommend notating the point in the bar where the mf should be played, e.g. using a tie chain. That will give you a bit more to work with in that bar, spacing-wise.
