Odd Note Input Error

Hello,

New to Dorico from Finale.

I am in 4/4. On beat one there is a sextuplet followed by what is supposed to be a dotted half note.

No matter how I input the dotted half note (duration=7 + period) Dorico interprets it as a quarter tied to a half.

I thought it was bar groupings or something but could not adjust it. The staff above it has eight eighth notes beamed four and four.

I need my dotted half.

What might I be doing wrong?

Assuming your Notation Options are set to factory defaults, the only one you need to change is this one:

Dorico follows rules. It’s up to you to set the rules you want.

Alternatively, use Force Duration (O) to break the rules.
