I posted this in the Next Gen Facebook page and got confirmation that this is reproducible but no other responses: “To Coda” is not working as I would have expected. Win11, Version 6.2.0.6088 The image was created from the lead sheet template to illustrate the situation. Resulting Playback flow is measure 1,2,3,2,3,4,5,3,1,2,3,6. Why is Dorico jumping to the beginning when it hits the “To Coda” after the D.S. instead of going straight to the Coda? The same thing is happening in my full project.
Hi Jeff,
Can you post the dorico file? There may be something we can’t see that is causing this.
(Also, I believe the playback flow you describe has an error; m1 would not be included in the repeat after the d.s., and some might question whether the repeat should be played after the d.s. as well — but, of course, that has nothing to do with the problem,)

The To Coda must be placed before the repeat barline (not on it).
To Coda.dorico (1.4 MB) (This file only takes about 45 seconds to create from scratch.)
Sorted (kind of): Dorico is attaching the “To Coda” to the start of the next measure by default when I select the measure bar line for the “To Coda”: And this works as expected in another project where the “To Coda” is attached to the follow measure which is the start of a first ending. Also, the “D.S. al Coda” works fine attached to the bar line. So I’m still not clear on when you want Repeat Jumps attached to bar lines, or grid positions. Additionally, when you attach a “To Coda” under certain conditions, the jump is too early: 4/4 measure, quarter, quarter rest, half rest, with the grid set to half note - selecting the half rest for the “To Coda” jumps halfway through the measure, moving it with alt-arrow puts it in the next measure (and I get the jump to beginning behavior). So the question now is: is the jump to coda happening at the beginning of the grid position or after?
For those saying the attachment goes before the bar line, why does this file work?
To Coda 2.dorico (1.4 MB)
After playing around with repeat structures, I think there is an actual bug.
The first image has the “To Coda” attached at the beginning of measure 4. It plays back in the expected order. Adding the repeats around measures 2 and 3, and touching nothing else, changes the “To Coda” behavior: it now jumps to the beginning at the “To Coda”, and then the correct jump when it hits “To Coda” the SECOND time after the “D.S. al Coda”. Moving the “To Coda” attachment point to the “end” of measure 3 causes playback to shorten that measure by the grid value (where the “To Coda” is attached). So there is something wrong with the interaction between the repeat sign and the To Coda.Attaching a “To Coda” to a grid point before the bar line shortens the measure by that grid value.
And now I find that the Coda jump works if the Segno is not in the middle of the repeated section.
Hey Jeff, did you ever stumble across a satisfactory solution for this? I’ve just encountered the exact same issue ![]()
