Oddly Stretched Stems - Caught on Rhythmic Cues

I created rhythmic cues using a separate staff. Then I noticed the stems of the notes below the rhythm cues were stretched in an odd way (screen capture below). I closed Dorico completely and restarted - but the stems remained the same, stretched.

I tried increasing the distance of the rhythm cues by selecting the cue label and activating “Distance” switch in the Cues group. This stretched the stems further (image below) - as if the beams had somehow latched onto the rhythm marks.

Any idea what might cause this symptom?

This is a known issue, I’m not sure there’s a good solution.

You could flip the stems:

Or place the cue below: (distance set to -16)

I flipped the stems of the notes. Thanks for the help.

Ceterum censeo, this needs to be urgently addressed, please.

I made a font (and set of playing techniques) specifically for creating rhythmic cues that don’t interact with the contents of the staff. You might find it helpful.
