Offline processing of copies buggy?

I usually have longer takes of vocals, which I then copy within the arrangement, cut up, adjust the length, and so on. But they remain copies. But when I use offline editing, Cubase tells me that copies exist and asks if I want to create a “New Version”. If I decline, it only applies the offline processes to the parts that are identical. Everything that is cut up or shortened is not taken into account, even though they are still copies and have the same name.
If I open the offline editing window in these copied parts, Cubase (12 Pro) also shows me the applied processes, but they have not been applied (auto-apply is activated)! I have to repeat them for each copy and the further I move to the right in the arrangement, the more duplicates there are in the list. This also happens when I select everything and Cubase then applies the processes to all of them.
Is this normal behavior and is there any way to improve it? I don’t want to create “New Versions” so that I can make corrections that are then automatically applied to all copies.

I experimented with it on an empty song. Sometimes it works correctly, even with copies of copies that are shortened. But then suddenly it even applies the edit x times to the first original, rendering it unusable. I’ve also tried using the pool to perform offline editing directly on the sample file, but that doesn’t make any difference either. Is the system really that buggy?

Hi,

If I understand you correctly, the effect is applied only to the given “window”. So if your original Audio Event is from Bar 1 to bar 6, you cut the Audio Event to bars 2-4 and apply the DOP, the effect is applied to this range only even for the other Audio Events (coming from the same Audio Clip). Am I right?

The function is designed like this. The effect is applied only to the selected range (what is the Audio Event “window” in this case).

Yes, this is how it is described in the instructions, but the behavior is unpredictable. If it is only applied to the selected event/bars, why does Cubase ask whether it should create a new version or also apply it to all copies? If you also want to apply it to all copies, this does not always happen. And when it does, it has the unpleasant effect of showing the processes in the list several times. In addition, so many copies of the samples are created in the “Edits” folder and are not removed when the processes have actually been deleted. It all seems very immature and has already been discussed on Reddit: Reddit - Dive into anything

Hi,

What is unpredictable, if it’s described this way, please?

Because you can use the very same “window” multiple times in the project. For example a vocal part or a drum hit.

If you want to apply it to the whole file, you can apply the process on the Audio Clip level (open it from the Pool).
