Ok, I'll bite... what's this 25 ledger line greyed out note + orange box?

Never, ever seen anything like this in Dorico. This suddenly appeared, although I think it happened when I was typing too fast and maybe hit Shift + ___ or something like. I even tried Chat GPT, which told me that the orange box has something to do with the caret. This greyed out note + orange box doesn’t appear when I preview for printing.

Please note that the grid is messed up as well.

I can’t get rid of it. Any ideas?

This perhaps.

Thanks for the reply.

Chat GPT had the same suggestion as the first quote above. However, disabling ‘Enable note pitch and rhythmic position editing…’ didn’t do the trick.

I’m hovering my cursor over the orange box but I’m not seeing a ‘Show Tabs’ button anywhere. Let me see if I can figure out where that button is supposed to be.

Seems weird that the grid is messed up. The grid error goes away when I click away from Bar 31. When I try to click into Bar 31 (i.e. place the cursor somewhere on the grid in that bar), the messed up grid reappears.

Maybe try to close/reopen the project after changing the setting.

Bingo!

I feel like I should have thought of that. Thanks. Would still be interested to fully understand what the orange box is but it clearly has something to do with note input mode. I’ll figure it out.,

The orange highlighted area indicates the rhythmic duration and staff that would be affected by your edit, if you decide to “accept” it.

You can find examples of it in the official manual, the text that has been authored by a person (me) and verified for accuracy rather than auto-generated by an electricity-guzzling server
