Ok, who's using 32" 4k monitors with Cubase 13 or 14? How are you finding it?

I need to add a third monitor to be my central monitor, and I’m looking at 32 inch 4k for Windows 11 system. My concern is the Cubase interface itself having mismatches of text point size, elements, etc. I understand that I’ll have to scale up, but I’d like to have as much screen real estate as possible. A scale to 125% would seem ideal if Cubase is not too small. I believe that 150% would give me about the equivalent of 2K which is what I use now, albeit things would be sharper…

What are your experiences if you’re using 32 inch at 4K?
Are you running at 150%; 125%.
How far do you sit from the monitor?

Any positives or negatives you’ve noticed?

For the record, I sit at 36 inches from two 32" 2K screens currently.

Thanks for your opinions.

Wouldn’t it be better to use 3 27" displays at 2560×1440 without any scaling?

^^^ what he said.

2560x1440 native seems to be the sweet spot for Cubase at the moment. I’m going to go out on a limb and guess that this is what the Steinberg software development team are using.

I can recommend the “Alienware AW2723DF”

I use two 27" inch 2ks at work, and it’s a little too straining on my eyes. The 32 inch 2Ks at home look fine, but a little jaggy.

I’m pretty much relegated to sitting 36 inches from the monitors. That would be hard to change given my desk situation.

So, I’ve used both 27 inch and 32 inch. I think in the end, even if I scale a 32 inch 4K to 150% the sharpness will be much more pleasant than the 2K 32 inch.

Hi Mahlon,

My setup is 3 x Samsung 4k 28"
Windows - settings - system - display : resolution 3840x2160,
I have a scale 125% for all 3 displays, but you can choose what you want…
This works for Nuendo and Cubase.
You can even choose to change the Cubase/Nuendo setup:
Preferences - General - HiDPI setting to -25%
Just adapt for your need.

I use 32” without any scaling and it’s fine. I wear reading glasses and the ones I have are great with the 32” at 100%

Im sure it’s a nice screen, but why would you need (read pay for) 280Hz refresh rate when working in a DAW?

Exactly the same, here, with a 2560 x 1440 resolution… and the glasses.

I’m running a 32 inch 4k monitor. Cubase looks great. I think I’m at 150% scaling as that’s what windows recommends as default. Cubase is all at defaults.

I wear computer glasses which are focused at about 1 meter , I have no issues with readiing things and I’m old

Yepp, computer glasses are recommended anyway.

A 4K monitor will typically be scaled at 150% . So it is a waste of money. I use two 4K 32 inch monitors, but if I could go back I’d go for one large curved screen.

Maybe two or four of those?

I am curious about the use of 32" monitors. I settled on two 27" QHD monitors side by side some time ago as it seems ideal for the Cubase workspace system and still allows speakers on either side to be at a good distance apart (the monitors are angled a bit). One 32" would be ok but the Cubase Workspace looks better on two monitors.

Here’s the thing, I cannot see how to set up the speakers with two or three 32" video monitors unless they were stacked.

Thanks,

PS I am using Win 11 set to 125% and HiDPI on and set to “system”

Scaling in Cubase is ugly honestly. I don’t know why it’s still don’t fixed by Steinberg…
No words… 2025 is here…

that’s why i use 1 x32 inch 4k monitor as it means I can have my Largeish Quested 3208’s positioned correctly and I don’t get issues with the center image.

If I used small nearfields then you can get away with 2x monitors or a large curved monitor but again it’s not ideal if your mixing and mastering in a good room.

Most high end mastering engineers don’t have a monitor in their firing line for that reason.

I use a 32" 4k on a flexible ergonomic arm so I can reposition it easily/quickly.
I pull it closer when working on details or need to display a lot of info. (no glasses)
I push it against the wall when doing critical listening. (not blocking sound)
Takes half a second to move it.

Works perfectly!

I got rid of mine and went back to a pair of 27" displays at 1440p. My 32" is nice, it’s a ViewSonic VP so its calibrated to 100% sRGB color, looks beautiful, but…

4K is still too small on that size screen, unless it’s right in your face. Scaling it to 2K felt like the screen was awkwardly too big for that resolution and my head had to move around a lot to see stuff. With the two 27"s my eyes move more than my head bouncing between the two screens (Arranger on the right, MixConsole on the left), its a lot more comfortable and efficient for me.

That said, I am still curious and thinking about picking up a 55" commercial display from work one of these days to see how that looks mounted on the wall hehehe. Only problem is, I’ve gotten used to my 27"s running at 144Hz+ and don’t want to go back down…

I also have the same setup (LG 4K 32"), I sit about 50 to 60 cm away from it, I also wear glasses. My glasses are tuned to this distance, so I can see perfectly, but Cubase’s fonts are so tiny without any scaling, almost unusable in my personal opinion. My main DAW is Bitwig Studio and there it’s so easy to scale the GUI to optimal settings. In Cubase I didn’t find any settings to do so, its menus are so damn cluttered, compared to more modern DAWs. Is there a setting to scale Cubase’s GUI? Sorry, but I haven’t used Cubase for over 20 years, just got a new license two months ago.

I hear you, I use a QHD 27" monitor (I sit an arm length away), and the font sizes are way too tiny, even with my computer glasses. In C12 a lot of text labels were at least 8px (which is already small), since C13 a lot of them have been even more reduced to 7px.
Sadly, Cubase cannot scale fonts at all. You can only use HDPI-scaling, but that scales everything, so again you lose precious real estate in the arrangement window and editors. Also, on Windows, HDPI-Scaling does not work at all with some plugins.
