Hi there, and thank you again! This all makes perfect sense. I have already got a couple of Ext HDD for backup, even though the new laptop won’t be here until end of month…LOL.
I am going to use one of the Ext HDD for System Image backups, and I have a larger one for Data file backups. Really getting excited about using the new Cubase.
On my main Home PC, not for music, I have been using NTI EZ7 Imaging and Backup software, but I find that it isn’t that reliable, so I am researching a good imaging and data backup software. I will check the Macrium.
Again, everyone on this forum has given great advice and have been very friendly and considerate. That is really great to see, so thanks again to all!
I agree. I have separate partitions for system, user data, audio projects and another for libraries, samples, and VST plugins (except version 3).
Keeping this in mind, the integration between Steinberg’s tools is a pity. It would take less time and reduce data written to my disks if download assistant could check the content of the library manager and download only new or updated .vstsound files. All of them on all my PCs are preserved when I reinstall Windows.
Thank you for your ringing endorsement, MrSoundman! I am checking their website now…The one thing, and I could be mistaken on this, is that it appears that the Drive C System Image is an ‘incremental’ style which I have on another PC for image backup (NTI-EZ7), but the NTI version takes almost 30 hours to complete…You can’t just save an image separately from a particular time and date. In comparing it to the Active@Disk Image backup, you can save the entire Image file as currently exists on that date. With that you can pick and choose any particular Image file by date and just load it without it having to go through all of the incremental save dates. Again, I could be mistaken but I am going to look into it and try to get a bit more info on it.
Everyone on this forum has been extremely helpful, and I really appreciate the combined knowledge and experience you all have! Hopefully, down the road when I get up to speed on Cubase 14 Pro, perhaps I can contribute something in return.
Funny you mention Windows XP, that was what I was running with Cubase SX V1.06 since October of 2004! I can see how far along the improvements and capabilities of 14 is compared to that 20-year old version! LOL.
