Just have to say in all my excitement…
I mainly use my 2015 MacBook Pro (OSX Monterrey) for Dorico work when not at my 2023 MacMini M2Pro.
But, I also have Cubase 13 on the old laptop as well, and it runs fine. No problems at all. (I like to have duplicated computers for when needed.)
So, I upgraded to Halion 7 and installed all content, plus the new X Stream, on my MacMini M2 Pro. Of course, all is fine and excellent there.
But I thought…why not install everything on the MacBook Pro as well.
Whoa…it all works! Even X Stream. Wow. And works extremely well, as in entirely ‘usable’.
Sure, there is a bit more of a CPU hit on the old laptop, but…this means I can still do sound-design type projects on the MacBook Pro while sitting in a coffee shop or somewhere without being tied down to the MacMini.
I can do my Dorico work anywhere, which is fantastic, but now being able to enjoy full Halion 7 while away from the studio area? Wow.
I’ve used other DAW’s and VST’s over the years, and everyone is aware of the pains of upgrading due to older OSX systems or being unable to use the latest version of a DAW because it won’t work on a computer ‘a few years old’.
My MacBook Pro is almost 10 years old! And, it will run all my Steinberg software.
THAT…is Amazing.
And the software instruments in the ‘Halion world’ are so incredible, that I’m just going to delete many other softsynths and really delve into the Halion/Steinberg instruments more and more. If I can’t create what I want using what Steinberg gives us, then there is something wrong with me!
Thank you Steinberg! What you’re doing these days is just fantastic!
