One more "Render in Place" issue

When using Render In Place, the resulting audio files often contain silence. If a track contains multiple MIDI parts, one or all of them may render as silent. In some cases, only one channel of a stereo render is silent.

This happens very frequently, and despite many attempts, I have not been able to identify the specific condition that triggers it. It appears to occur randomly during normal workflow.

Things I tried that did not solve the issue:

  • Muting and unmuting the track

  • Enabling and disabling record on the track before rendering

  • Extending MIDI parts slightly to the left and/or merging all MIDI parts into a single part

  • Testing all available options in the Render In Place dialog

  • Disabling sends, inserts, groups, and other routing

  • Disabling track delay

  • Changing the VST instrument (Kontakt, Musio)

  • Disabling ASIO Guard

The only unpleasant workarounds I have found are:

  • Selecting “Complete Signal Path” in the Render In Place dialog always produces correct results.

  • Restarting Cubase (not just the project). If Render In Place is the first action after reopening the project, it works correctly.

I have read many posts on this issue, but none of the suggested solutions solved the problem. Does anyone have any idea why this is happening? How does the Render In Place process actually work?

Make sure just the track is selected and not a part of it. You have to be careful with render in place with what is clicked on.

Thank you for your reply. Yes, I am aware of this. Only the track is selected. Unfortunately, this isn’t the culprit…

Are you using Direct Routing on the Tracks?

Yes i have this a lot in CB 14, but its workable

On mac, i can not MUTE a track when rendering in place, for instance.

Sometimes i have to restart CB etc etc

Sometimes i have to bounce in place and then it works

But 95% of the time it works for me
