Online User Manual: Add In-line Version History Info?

@Lillie_Harris, while responding to a post I realized that I am often wondering, either for myself or when trying to help someone here: “when was that feature introduced? Is it something recent or did I totally ‘space’ something ‘goin’ all the way back…'?” :face_with_spiral_eyes:

I don’t know whether this would have enough value to balance out whatever amount of time and attention it would take, but would it be worth adding version-history info to features, à la:

I’m not sure how helpful this would be, for the work required, especially when the Version Histories (which Daniel writes, with exquisitely beautiful detail and panache) and New Features lists both exist already.

Admittedly, the New Features list isn’t necessarily comprehensive, as we focus on features that are sufficiently chunky as to be really noteworthy, but it’s something. And given that it’s now easier to switch between versions of the same page, you can fairly quickly compare New Features lists for Dorico 4 and 5, for example.

Makes good sense, thanks. I figured it was a tangential request. And I agree: the version histories are great and super “panache-y”!

I have had in mind to gather all the Version History PDFs (this would be 5 of them) and merge them so I can search in my PDF reader program. This is because I remember reading something at the time it came out and it gave me the information I require (and now forgotten) in the way I remember it.
Sometimes the User Manual has a link, then another … whereas the Version History, it was all in one place.
In theory I would have downloaded them all anyway.

Here’s a zip file that contains the most recent revision of the Version History PDFs for each major version of Dorico:

Enjoy the walk down memory lane!

Daniel, I just want to reassure you that at least one person is currently chuckling at this sort of thing:

Now that’s panache!

Yeah, I remember finding that when it was released. I stopped work to search for more gems but, alas, there were none.

Consider this a FR.
