I am wondering why, for Instrument Tracks, when you click on the circular drop-down button at the bottom left of the track, if automation exists besides Volume, that it is not presented and instead you must right-click on the track and select “Show Automation for Selected Tracks”.
I would have thought it would show whatever automation type(s) is/are available, where at least only a single automation type is defined.
Very time consuming changing the automation of single tracks, one after the other, opening and closing automation lanes.
They don’t show up on your system?
Or are you referring to MIDI Controller lanes?
Just a FYI: The Last Touched Parameter settings in the automation panel might be interesting for you. Project > Automation Panel (default key command F6) > Settings. Is this of any help to you?
You can also assign all kinds of key commands to automation visibility tasks. You don’t have to click through menus if you don’t want to.
I appreciate the pointer regarding the automation panel; however my impression was that it was meant to be per track, e.g., in a similar manner to the panel, that opens with the “e” button.
You’ll find a compressed version of the automation panel in the right zone,too.
I have key commands assigned to automation lane visibility tasks. It’s very easy anf comfortable to work with them.You’ll find them under the tab automation in key commands. The presence of the automation panel in the right zone is quite helpful, too. Have you tried?

Can you confirm that automation lanes don’t show up as expected on your system (see screenshot in my previous post)?
The automation lanes do show up but not always immediately, which is a great disappointment at the best of times since hovering over the bottom-left of the track and clicking in the circle, with the downwards arrow often yields mixed results, in particular between MIDI and Instrument Tracks, of which I use extensively.
I also use Audio Tracks, however just with Volume and that never fails to appear on any track type, except maybe outputs, and groups of which are not tracks parse but rather are hardwired into the tracklist of the project.
To add, often only the first parameter appears, if one is set, for example Modulation, thus supplanting the Volume parameter.
I normally use Expression, as well for most instruments I use, in conjunction with the aforementioned parameter, in addition to volume or level as it is sometimes referred to in VSTi’s. I then record the outputs of these instruments via the internal channels of a Motu 8A, which includes signal processing, to separate audio tracks and I mix these within the same application, i.e., Nuendo, using UAD DSP exclusively.
Do those key commands, open all parameters first go, and not just Volume, if there is only one parameter set, in particular post preference deletion?
This is not to mention, the fact automation lane heights, are never remembered, which costs even more time overall, in relation to tracks specifically.
