Open Meter - preserving bar lines

Hi - I’m trying to work out how to convert a series of bars (currently with rapidly changing bar signatures) to open meter but keeping the bar lines in place.

When I delete one or multiple time signatures following the first bar of open meter, the bar line at the start of that bar disappear.

How can I convert a section to open meter while preserving the bar lines as they are?

Why don’t just hide the time signatures?

Indeed, rather than deleting the time signature, select each of them and activate the Hide time signature property in the Properties panel in the lower zone.
