Opening Dorico 6 files with Dorico 5

Can the team comment on what kinds of problems we would need to look out for when opening Dorico 6 files with Dorico 5? I see it can be done, but we are warned about possible items and notations actually being removed. What kind of items and notations?

I’m already seeing issues with text font families. Anything else to look out for?

Hey Dan,

From what I’ve read, it would only be features that have been introduced with Dorico 6 that won’t show up in Dorico 5. Cutaway scores, additional lines of chord symbols, etc.

I wonder if the chord symbols themselves that you can create in Dorico 6 will translate back into Dorico 5? Like those you modify and say “apply to all roots”… will those apply to all roots in Dorico 5 as well?

We’ve not tested this extensively (it’s hard enough testing everything for a single version of Dorico!) but you may run into issues with the precise placement of components within chord symbols. We’ve made quite a few changes (and fixes) to the way that chord symbols themselves are drawn, so although for the most part the underlying data is the same as it was in previous versions, the way that data is interpreted is now different in a number of ways.

If the precise appearance of chord symbols is critical, you should encourage your collaborators to update to Dorico 6 as well. In the meantime it would be worth considering sharing a PDF exported from Dorico 6 along with your Dorico project file when you send it to whomever you’re working with.

Can you elaborate on this? If you’re on Windows, you might see the “Missing Font Style” dialog more often with D5 documents, until they’ve been resaved.

Yes, that is the issue.
