When opening a file that was created in an earlier version, Dorico opens it as a new, unsaved file so that the previous version is not automatically overwritten by the newer one. I get that, and it makes sense to not automatically overwrite the previous one.
However, when I go to save the file that has now been created from the older one, Dorico has no clue where it opened it from. It treats it like an entirely new file, and the “Save” dialog defaults to the default Dorico file path.
Would it be possible at some point to have the program remember the directory you opened the older version from? I prefer to either overwrite the one I opened with the newer one or at least keep the versions together, and I then have to remember where to get to it. This is especially challenging when opening from the list of recent files on the hub.
And since this happens with the most minor version increments of Dorico (not just e.g., a version 5 file being opened in 6, but also a version 6.1.1 file being opened in 6.1.2), it happens to me a LOT! 
I did find that there is a setting in “Preferences” to “Prompt to save projects from an earlier or later version to a new location” that I can uncheck. That’s kinda what I wanted, I guess. It allows me to easily overwrite the new one as soon as I save the file. But if I still wanted the “prompt to save in new location” option, it would be great if it at least defaulted in the “Save…” dialog to the current location of the file that was opened.
There must be some other preference, because Dorico opens them for me as “named” files, which I can “update” just with File > Save – without having to go through a dialog.
Yes, the preference I found does this. I’d kinda like the best of both worlds, though. LOL I’d like to be prompted to save it, but not have to find the folder it originally came from. Similar to a “Save As…” where it defaults to the current location of the file. With the preference to prompt turned on, it literally seems to treat it like it’s a brand new, never been saved before file. Which technically, I guess it is, but…
I just carry on regardless. If I need an earlier version (and that’s very rare), I’ve got backups.
