Not sure if I should post this in the Dorico or Cubasis section, but here goes:
If I compose a piece in Dorico for iPad, using Iconica instruments, then save a MIDI file and open it in Cubasis, are then the appropriate expressions/articulations included as well? Or is there a proper way to go about this?
Reason I ask is because I’m considering buying Iconica for Cubasis.
First up, please note that Dorico already includes a version of Iconica Sketch. Please find it further described in this support article:
In addition, Cubasis does not support specific expressions/articulations. For more details, you may check out the dedicated chapters (e.g. Cubasis MIDI Editor etc.) in our available help PDFs:
Thanks for your reply, Lars. I already have and use Iconica in Dorico for iPad, hence my question if compositions will translate properly to Iconica in Cubasis.
But with the help of the links in your reply and some testing, it turns out that yes, compositions made using Iconica in Dorico will indeed transfer properly to Iconica in Cubasis, when exporting a MIDI file from Dorico.
Since Dorico does not say which keys are used for keyswitches in Iconica, I figured it out by writing a melody in Dorico with articulation switches and dynamics, using Iconica’s Violins 1. Then I exported this as a MIDI file and imported it into Cubasis. Both the keyswitches and the dynamics were imported, and as i noticed in screenshots in the manual for Iconica, both use CC1 for dynamics, and the same keyswitches are used in both versions of Iconica. If I for example use Violins 1 in Iconica in Dorico, then short notes will use the keyswitch F#0 and long notes E0. These are the same keyswitches used in Iconica for Cubasis.
Yay!
