A dream would come true if there was finally a grid that could be switched on and off, as well as “magnetism” for aligning frames!
Aligning frames is currently a painstaking task, as there is neither a grid that can be switched on and off, nor “magnetism” as we know it from MS PowerPoint, for example.
I’m sure I wouldn’t be the only one who would be delighted if something like this existed in the near future!
Yes, this would be a great. I find it currently fiddly in Dorico, to line up text labels in, for example, instructional materials, where there may be quite a lot
Yes, but if I want a frame to be right under another one, I need to select the first one, figure out Top + Height, and then set the Top of the second frame to that value. Even in the simpler case of wanting to left-align a couple of frames, some basic alignment tools would be a big help.
Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes! In about 5 weeks I have become fairly proficient in Dorico for my needs yet the one thing that still causes angst is trying to position frames, for example, in Engrave Mode. Sure, I can move them around and calculate where they should be based on Properties. It sure would be much more user friendly and more consistent with other software GUIs, in general, to be able to drag to a grid or at least to show how a frame aligns with other frames on the same page when moving and adjusting. Every work and every flow seems to have one thing in common: the final output has to be adjusted in some significant way in order for it to appear publisher ready despite manipulating layout and engraving options.
For example, in Finale, one could choose margins for systems as well as the space between systems and apply that to one or all or any number of consecutive systems. Finale didn’t do a great job in its default placement of systems either but there was this particular tool to make adjustments as efficient as possible within that environment.
