Options from C13 in C14 Score Editor

Hello,

I’m having a hard time finding the options I used in Cubase 13 within the Score Editor. Where can I find the following options, which in Cubase 13 were located in the screenshot below? I’m specifically looking for:

  • Syncopation

  • Consolidate Rests

  • Clean Lengths

  • No Overlap

  • Shuffle

Many thanks in advance,

Philippe

You have to study the manual. The new score editor is a completely new beast: based on Dorico, but so far a cut down version of Dorico so a lot of things can’tbe be done yet.

I definitively dislike this new Score Editor. A lot of features missing, more mouse action/click for a same functionality, …

The only benefit I see is the quality of the score that is better, but the features lost have a more important impact on my workflow than the quality improvement. I think I will continue to use C13 for score editing…

I myself do like the new score editor, but that’s because I’m using the full version Dorico as scoreeditor too. It took aehile to get used to it.

I’ve never used Dorico. How is it integrated with Cubase? Is it able to load a Cubase project? Is it possible to work on the same project with both softwares?

You can directly exchange your notation via export and import as Dorico Projects in the Score Editor.

Yes, that’s why they have replaced the old score editor with a Dorico app. You can import/export between the two, with some limitations so far. Dorico SE is a free program (cutdown version), Dorico Pro and Dorico Element are licenced progs.

When will Steinberg implement chromatic note insertion (inserting notes that are not in the key of the composition). I find this to be a critical feature that is not in the current Cubase 14 / Dorico implementation.

What do you mean? In Dorico you aren’t limited to entering diatonic notes.

And in Cubase 14 you can respell as note name above or note name below.

Inserting or moving notes is entirely diatonic in 14. However, the work around (clumsy as it is) is to use the wheel on the pitch name in the bar above the score. You can also double click on it to make a change.

In previous versions, the score editor allowed for chromatic entry directly. Yet another function which has been lost. But, as has been said on multiple times, we can still use 13 with a 14 licence.

It is possible to repitch notes chromatically by holding down shift as you drag.

I can accept that, thanks for the info.

Thank you Paul. Is this feature in the manual anywhere?

It wasn’t in the original documentation, but I asked for it to be added.
