I want the violin player to go from ord. to sul pont in two measures. I was thinking of indicating it either with lines like a rit. that continues. However, Dorico does not put the lines and the playing technique at the same position, they are usually a little bit off vertically. (see picture attached)
Is there a way to do this efficiently? How are others notating this?
Hi @Composer-Chris, you don’t need to create a separate line (if this is what you did), but instead:
prolong (*) the ord. PT till the first beat of sul pont. bar with select > Shift+Alt(Option)+right arrow (you see the end control point move to the right) , and activate the Continuation line and set it to dashed as desired
group the playing techniques, selecting both of them and right click > Playing Techniques > Group Playing Techniques, so the line will be vertically aligned and will be nicely connected to the subsequent PT:
@Composer-Chris
(*) Add-on: if you are going to group the PTs, you don’t even need to activate or prolong the line, because ord. triggers the Natural playback technique, that is already set as Direction per default. (You may want to just change the Line style in the properties panel):
Do you know how I can do it, so the line is also in the parts? Because if I go to the violin parts in this case, I have to do it manually again.
Or do I just need to rework it in the parts again?
If you group the Playback techniques, you should see that the properties for them are set Globally (the properties text is Blod white), so the part will inherit the properties changes.
If you don’t want to group them, you can select the PT in fulls core, and then go into menu Edit and choose propagate properties (soy that the properties will be set in the parts also), or before you change a property set the properties panel scope to Globally. Many ways
Here a short video with the workflow that I explained at the end of my previous post:
@Composer-Chris And remember that if you forget to set the properties panel to Globally, you can anytime propagate the properties, also on an individual basis.
