I really do like the term “New Worlders” - but new is relative to the last 530+ years? I cannot imagine what an appropriate name would be for those of you in locales with a thousand or more years of history…:rofl:

(Of course, all places have peoples and histories going back for many millennia, if not necessarily in the written forms we sometimes use to delimit “history.”)

I’m still interested, but my schedule varies so much day to day that the poll isn’t really something I can answer with any accuracy. Would we want to pick a date to aim for first?

I picked EST but having worked for a long time with folks on both sides of the Atlantic (and it’s still named that, until some jackass renames it), there are ways to accommodate a 6-hour time difference. And I think folks need to be mindful and respectful of others across the pond (as I sit here for the second week in a row in Portugal).

Over 20 years ago, I was heavily involved in the Sequenza21 site when it still had a composer’s forum. It was heavily trafficked and we all got to know one another, for good and for bad, online. We finally decided to have a concert in NYC in 2006, and it worked very well. Besides having a lot of new music performed (including my work objects for electric organ, marimba and piano), it was a good way for many of us to meet in person for the first time. I’d start with a zoom meeting however. The concert was really challenging to plan, and accommodating a lot of works and competing interests was daunting. The community here is much, much larger than what we had with S21 and I suspect that would make it unfeasible. But maybe someday…

I like this idea and a zoom/meet is a reasonable alternative. What I would suggest is a bit of structure. Perhaps a few of us would like to make short presentations on current projects, tips and tricks or whatever but leave most of the time for questions and discussions - something to guide and/or drive the meet and also to keep us all engaged.
