SmartScore 64 has just had an update from version 11.5 to 11.6.
For some reason, this is now given the new name “SmartScore 64 NE”, where NE = new edition. I’m not sure how they’re going to follow that.
Slightly annoyingly, because the app has a new name, it doesn’t overwrite the old app, and counts as a different ‘seat’ for licensing/authorisation purposes.
There’s a “streamlined” interface (sadly not this sort of streamlining); new Help system, and bug fixes. Let’s hope some of the bug fixes improve the recognition.
No Apple Silicon, sadly.
They’ve also brought their webshop screaming into the 21st century, by offering downloads as the default; instead of the previous “buy a thumbdrive and then add a download for an $10, and tell us you don’t want the drive, and we’ll refund you the shipping”.
I was looking at SmartScore the other day and wondered how reliable it is and how much manual correction is required. Would be great to have the opinion of anyone who’s been using it!
Initial results tend to be a mixed bag. The main feature is that you can correct and adjust what it has done in the app, before you export the XML.
But of course, if you have to spend time tidying it up and checking the score, (before more checking and changing in Dorico) then part of me is thinking “Would it be any slower just to type the thing in”?
I’ll happily trial any pages that anyone has.
If AI is looking for a worthwhile application (and it is), then surely decent OMR is it.
My computer is currently expending some of its processing power to identify photographs of my cats and putting them in album.
It’s not like the internet is short of sheet music images.
Okay, just for that I’m afraid I’m gonna have to take this into some serious fb territory and inform you that my very own companion “Tevildo” (actual name: Stravi — but any and all Tolkien nerds either know or might be interested…) now has his gaze fixed firmly upon you from his dark tower of Barad Pûrr:
