OT: Recognize this hymn tune? May be by John R. Sweney

I’m wondering if some sacred music specialists or hymn engravers on this forum might know what English hymn this tune was associated with.

This hymn tune is paired with a non-English hymn text and attributed to John R. Sweney. Hymnary.org lists 1510 tunes associated with Sweney. I’ve searched hymnary.org and the internet, but I can’t find any clues as to how this tune was originally used (what English hymn text it was paired with). It’s possible that the attribution to Sweney is not accurate, but I’ve not found any mistaken attributions from this source so far.

As an aside, if anyone successfully uses the advanced search capability at hymnary.org, I’d love to know how. Seems I should be able to search with a last name and a meter and sort results that way, but I can’t. I can’t even search for one item on the advanced search page and get results. And the incipit search there is a total mystery to me.

Thank you to all Dorico forum folks who so generously help me with all my questions!

24.07 Unknown Tune (maybe by John R. Sweney).pdf (17.9 KB)

I do engraving for my hymnary, part of the hymnary sites. I can’t say I remember running across this one. Hymnary has lots of non-English texts so maybe searching by that will get you in the right direction. I find hymnary is better at searching text. I did get the advanced search and incipit search to work, but I couldn’t find any hymns that matched. If what you enter isn’t there, you won’t get any results. For the advanced search I entered “Sweney” in the Person name and the key of D in the key line of Tune category. It gave me about 30 and included Db major. For the incipt search, enter the scale tone of the melody (33312332122223554 for the first line). No matches. I tested the search by entering only 6 notes and did find some close matches, but not the tune you’re interested in.

Thank you very much, James, for your work on this! I appreciate it!
