I know this isn’t strictly Dorico related but suspect it may be of interest to some Dorico users and hope the moderators won’t mind. The cost comes down from 199 euros to 99 euros. I have this library and to my taste, at least, it is great.

Yes. Costs are probably more important for music hobbyists like me than for many working as music professionals but other factors also help put VSL at the top of my list when shopping for an instrument library:
-VSL’s long history as a leader in the industry,
-the sound of their libraries,
-the availability of VSL-supplied Dorico playback templates,
-the frequent availability of trial versions that allow me to try before I buy,
-the polite and prompt replies to my email enquiries and a very good user forum,
-in many cases, comparatively modest ram requirements, and
-the money-back guarantee if I purchase a library that I decide doesn’t meet my requirements.
I probably sound like I work for their marketing department which isn’t the case but my experiences and communications with VSL and also Modartt (makers of Pianoteq and Organteq) and Wallander (NotePerformer) are noticeably more positive than with several other companies in the industry.
I had some vague interest in this at that price but a few hours yesterday was simply not enough time to download and try it out before going away for a couple of days today. I doubt I’ll regret it in the end. After all the number of articulations in the library is pretty limited compared to something like my Spitfire Chamber Strings.

I usually use NotePerformer and Pianoteq, sometimes Steinberg Opus.
I usually quickly load the VSTs and load the instruments I need, save Dorico and often do not need to return to the file much.
With this VSL library, because of all the options, I have started to set up a basic “template” for the string section, with a separate instance of Synchron player for each of violins 1 and 2, viola etc. (as I cannot find a way to have more than one instrument on that interface/midi number as some libraries like Halion do) is this correct?
What I have never needed to know, is if I need to then save each as a preset (I presume so, so I can then load it into a new piece into the future.) However if I only want that combination for just one piece, do I still need to save a preset, or does Dorico remember my setup parameters for each instrument. Generally I am not using key switches, although I can see I might need to do so at some point. For now, what I have been setting up is legato strings, sometimes playing with attack time and release, mixer. I need to save this for each instance of Synchron player? or is it all saved in Dorico itself without having to do anything in Synchron player.
Will be watching some VSL and other YouTubes and looking at their manual to understand more, but if anyone has a process they use, it would help me understand.

@arco - have you explored Vienna Ensemble Pro 8; it may answer some of your questions?
Yes, a separate instance of the Synchron Player is required for every Duality Strings Essentials instrument track in Dorico. Have you downloaded VSL’s playback template for Duality Strings Essentials? If not, you can download it directly into Dorico from the “Dorico Wizard” in VSL’s Vienna Assistant. This will give you access to a Dorico expression map for each instrument in your new library making it straightforward to build a new playback template that combines your new strings with instruments from other libraries including NotePerformer, Halion Sonic or others. I hope this helps.

@Mike_Philcox Thank you, yes I saw it mentioned and have it downloaded, just not used it yet, I was hoping to start slowly, by at least getting some instruments loaded into the single instances (Thanks for confirming) so I could understand the process in a basic way first, before thinking of the expression maps.
On that subject, you simply apply them to each instance in the Endpoint setup? and the key switches etc. all work with the articulations I attach to the notes?
Coming from NP, we are quite spoilt with what it does with very little setup, which is originally why I have been using it.
Hi @arco . I have attached a Dropbox link to a playback template for NotePerformer and Duality Strings. After you apply this playback template all section strings will play back with Duality Strings using the VSL-provided expression maps and all other instruments (including solo strings) will play back with NotePerformer. Just drop the new playback template file onto the Dorico hub when you open the program and it should then be available under the Play tab above the Dorico window.

In case other users besides @arco are reading the above, the necessary first step before the linked playback template will work is importing the VSL-generated Dorico playback template for Duality Strings Essentials into Dorico using the Dorico Wizard in the VSL’s Vienna Assistant.
