Can I connect an output of a channel directly to an input channel? I’d like to select the output of a track to a different track rather then mix1.

Not sure exactly what you want to do, so there might be better ways to achieve it directly from your DAW, for example.
However, I can’t see any reason why not. (use TRS to TRS patch cords, not XLR)
Just be careful not creating a feedback loop, but you can’t break anything trying your routing scenarios by connecting any line-out to any line-in.
My thought was to create a second tract live as the first plays. The reason is to fx while it record’s.
What can the outputs be used for other than external fx?
