I’m looking for fixes which don’t involve engrave mode - when the music changes (which it will) any engrave mode alterations become irrelevant at best and at worst trip me up.
Thank you! Obviously I’d forgotten I’d set that. That fully explains everything.
I remember now that I’d put earlier fixed 3 systems per page in to stop it automatically putting 4 systems on some pages and thus overlapping complete systems. (with very different stave sizes, note spacing, vertical differences etc).
I love Dorico - I really do - but when I get to the “make me a printed version” of the score it always something of game - particularly if I want the last page to look sensible.
My recipe is always to start with the defaults - look through and see what’s gone wrong and then start adjusting stave sizes, note spacing, vertical differences etc. Fixed systems per page has saved me a few times.
I’ve completely given up trying to get a perfect layout result - I’m happy with a readable result. Sorry.
If this happens again, please post a file. Systems overlaping shouldn’t happen, unless it’s forced by to many fixed systems in casting off, or manual changes like ‘make into frame’ ,I think
There are several ways to do that. If you could post a file when that last page doesn’t look good in your eyes, I’m sure someone can guide you.
Happens so often for me. If you add text to a 7 stave using control-X you often get it. I think Dorico doesn’t compensate correctly for added height of text between staves.
As regards layout I am always a little afraid of pressing “reset to default” anywhere just in case it resets all my keyboard shortcuts etc.
I am really grateful for people offering to help me - I am afraid I have my head buried down in the ‘actual music’ a bit too much. I must do that. I’d so soon get distracted into the technicalities of layout auto arrangement etc especially as that’s what I used to do as a full time profession.
