Hello there, here is a question for someone of the Dorico staff.
I have a problem converting an ancient score from Finale.
I tried to space differently the notes, but the problem still remains.
Here is an excerpt.
Does someone has an idea how to fix this please ?
Thanks in advance !
I’m not “Dorico staff”, I’m a fellow user, but I’ll do my best to answer anyway.
At bar 1 you have a Frame Break that’s set to Wait for next System Break and Wait for next Frame Break in the properties panel.
Turning off these would normally allow Dorico to spread the music more appropriately, but you also have fixed Casting Off in Library > Layout Options that specifies that each system will automatically contain four bars.
Looking at your Page Size, Staff Size and Page Margins, I note that your left margin is abnormally large (particularly given the page size is A4), meaning that there isn’t much room for Dorico to space the music (and the red fullness indicator in the bottom right corner of the page in Engrave mode, shows that the system is 195.8% full, so nearly twice as full as Dorico would like). The Staff Labels to the left of systems are within the Music Frame in Dorico, so there’s rarely any need for your left margin to be any wider than your right margin.
You might try reducing your margins. You might also try reducing your staff size - it’s currently 7mm, which is a slightly small default for part layouts but quite big for a conductor score or study score.
Hi pianoleo, thank you so very much. I understood my mistake. Did some changes and it is much better on the page. I am still learning about dorico wich is a fantastic software.
