Hello all, I’m new to Dorico, having just come from Finale. I’ve worked my way through a lot of tutorials, but still need help. I’m trying to override Dorico’s insistence on including ties for the following rhythm in 4/4:
I would like to have the tied F be a quarter note instead of two tied eighths. Can anyone help?
Thanks, Marie
(Not sure if the screen shot worked: the rhythm for the measure is dotted quarter, four sixteenths in pairs, quarter [this is two eighths tied in Dorico], two sixteenths.)
First thing is to go to Notation Options > Note Grouping, and look at all the options there, and set them as you want them. (Save as your default, if you like.)
If you can’t find anything there to fix it, then you’ll need to use “Force Duration” (shortcut: letter O). It’s the G-clamp looking icon on the left panel.
So, select the F. Press O.
Press 5 (a shorter note)
Press 6 (the note you want.)
The reason for making it a shorter note first is just so that you essentially “re-enter” the note as a quarter, but now your’ve got Duration forced.
