Page 1 in Engrave Pages is not recognized

Exactly as it sounds. I’m not sure what I did but when I double click on the Page 1 box on the right hand menu, it takes me to the 2nd page only. This is a problem because I can’t add a title page or anything else because Dorico keeps believing page 1 doesn’t exist and only page two is editable.

If I add new pages before page 1 it doesn’t resolve. There are no overrides involved and nothing I can see causing it. Thoughts?

It would be really helpful if you could attach a project. It would need to be long enough so that there are 3-4 pages to check. Or, you can use Lock Layout to keep all of your Frame Breaks.

Here is a short video of the issue.

Dorico basically isn’t recognizing page 1. This is problematic because I can’t create a cover page since I can’t edit anything at all on whatever is first page. It believes the third indicated page is actually the 4th page.

I have created new files, loaded in demos, etc. They are all behaving the same way. It doesn’t seem like correct behavior unless I’m missing something?

In the right zone, the red triangles at the top-left of each page indicate that you have in fact manually changed things on the page (rather than in a template). Since you have done this, any changes to templates etc won’t be shown on those pages.

Try right-clicking on those pages with the red triangle and select Remove Page Override(s) or Remove All Pages Overrides (if you want them all gone).

Does that make any more sense?

I appreciate the help - unfortunately, that isn’t the issue. Here is another video with one of the Dorico demos. You can see that page 1 on the right and screen doesn’t actually correlate to the first page. There is no real page 1 being recognized. I have no overrides in place. When I first bought Dorico a few months ago it was a non issue. This is the first time since my first learning that I’ve finished a project and needed to work in this area and it seems like either something is wrong or I’m doing something wrong.

It is conventional in music publishing for the first page to be the right hand page, rather than the left hand page.

Understood, but again this isn’t the issue. I’m trying to make a cover page and right now Dorico doesn’t recognize a page 1. The page 1 on the right side is actually page two and this is causing issues.

I don’t think I changed a setting. I’m double clicking, if that helps.

I just tried double-clicking and it seems to work as expected.

In any case, and just to confirm your original post, you’re saying that when you try to manually change something on Page 1, it is not working?

You’re welcome to attach your project but I’m not sure what’s going on at this point, sorry.

Do you have the most recent Dorico update?

To confirm, I can add blank pages and manually make changes but Dorico doesn’t recognize page 1 as page 1. It thinks Page 1 is actually page two. So that means I have to add pages in weird times, change the page number location by 1, and I can’t add a template to the real first page (that’s the biggest issue).

I can, of course just add blank pages and manually put everything on them. But that defeats the awesomeness of having the master pages.

Yes, I do. Do you?

Yes. Not sure what’s going on then. Maybe someone else will have an idea because this is new behavior. I’d hate to do another reinstall so I’ll wait and see if someone else can confirm.

It clearly has nothing to do with any update or not. Does your score have six pages? Because now we see it has five. If it has five, what’s the matter? That when you click on the first page, it’s the second one that dtands in the middle of the page? I agree it’s not really useful.
Otherwise, I admit I don’t understand your problem.

I don’t want to harp on about it but is there a particular reason why you’re hesitant about uploading? You can remove as much music as you like as long as the problem is still there. Or, feel free to PM me it.

I keep trying to upload and even small files keep indicating they’re over the file limit. I even tried uploading on of the demo files.

Try changing your Playback Template to Silent. It works a lot of the time.

The problem is that I cannot apply a template to the first page - i.e. I can’t actually apply a cover page template because there is no first page to assign it to because page one is actually page 2. So right now, I can’t use the template, I can only manually create a cover.

Again, it’s survivable but annoying because there’s no point to a template if I can’t assign it to a page.

Changing playback to silence work, thanks!

I certainly see a page 1 in the miniatures, you could perfectly right-click it and change page template on it. That is why we don’t understand your problem!
