I’m creating a part template for flip-folder size parts (5.5"x7") that would print both the first page and 2nd page on one piece of 8.5"x11" paper. I think I’ve done it correctly so the systems flow into a 2nd music frame on the same page, but I can’t get the page number to increment (it shows Page 1 on both the top and bottom system). Is there a token to print the next page number in a sequence?
I don’t think the page number tokens work like that, sorry.
Can you not set up Dorico’s print settings to accomplish what you need? Pages and templates would obviously have to be in landscape.
There are a few others:
Page number tokens
Page number token function | Token |
---|---|
Page number | {@page@} |
Total number of pages in the layout | {@pageCount@} |
Number of this page within the current flow, counting from 1 for the first page of the flow and including pages with no displayed page number | {@flowPage@} |
Total number of pages in the current flow | {@flowPageCount@} |
The displayed page number on which the specified flow “n”begins, such as {@flow3FirstPage@} | {@flownFirstPage@} |
You could try {@flowPage@} but I doubt it will do what you want either.
There does not appear to be a token for Frame number, which would probably be what is needed here.
I had a look at making a custom-sized page half as deep (5.5" instead of 11"), with only one music frame plus the text frame with the page number token (as in the bottom right corner of the upper half of the page in your picture), then printing to PDF using “2-up” under “Job Type”. However, no matter which option I chose, it kept defaulting to have the two pages side-by-side rather than one above the other.
What might work is to use that same custom page and print to PDF, then experiment with the various layout options when printing 2 pages per sheet in Adobe Acrobat Reader or a PDF reader of your choice.
@DanielMuzMurray I’ll have to think that through, but I run into issues because the page width of the parts when cut needs to be 7". Going 2-up in landscape would reduce that size.
When I printed parts in Finale, I formatted the parts to be 8.5x11 in landscape mode, and then printed 2-up, which oriented them correctly in portrait orientation (see attached).
However, the pages print centered, which requires each side to be cut to make the size correct. The layout I’m trying to make work in Dorico would be set against one edge of the paper, which would reduce the amount of cutting required (and thus, time for the client to get parts out to their performers).

I have had good experience printing small pages tiled onto regular paper. You could set up a 5.5 × 8.5" page with a single frame, and then the pages would number normally. In order to print off-center for cutting purposes, make the right margin bigger to get your frame the right size.
